This is hot chocolate, Madrid style. This chocolate is dark, bitter-sweet and as thick as pudding. (Notice how the spoon is actually resting on top of the chocolate.)
I don't think I saw too many people actually drinking it (although you should all know that I did try to drink it) but what you should do is take your churros (they aren't like the ones we get in Texas, dusted with cinnamon and sugar, these are plain) and dunk them in the chocolate and consume with GUSTO.
Even though these are pretty much served everywhere, my nephew took us to the place that's renowned for making this stuff. Everytime we went in there it was packed! You had to wait for a seat and this was all they served. About 3.50 in euros for the order per person.
